Setting the Bar for Emotional Wellness

OhioCertified Angus Beef (CAB) brings premium beef from farmers and ranchers across America to consumers around the globe. The organization places a premium on health and safety and demonstrates that it is a cut above by providing an onsite psychologist to support employees’ emotional health.

CAB contracts with a clinical psychologist who provides free wellness consultations onsite and on company time. Understanding that stigma can sometimes create a barrier to seeking help from a mental health professional, CAB aimed to build an accepting culture from the start.

To introduce the psychologist, CAB held a lunchtime learning session and encouraged employees to set up a 15-minute meet-and-greet. Employees schedule appointments with the psychologist in advance and sessions are held in a private room to help maintain confidentiality.

To maintain continuity across different levels of care, the psychologist also serves as the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provider for CAB. In the event that an employee needs a referral for more extensive services, having a relationship with the psychologist already in place makes it even easier to get help. A quarterly guided imagery relaxation course for employees is just one more benefit of having a psychologist as part of the company’s wellness program.

Having an on-site psychologist not only helps promote well-being, but also ensures that employees can be at their best on the job and in all aspects of their lives.
