Summary

This study investigates supervisors’ perceptions of their needs, barriers, and roles in promoting employee-wellbeing. Results from semi-structured, qualitative interviews of supervisors show that supervisors perceived the biggest barriers to be workload, ambivalence about their role, absence of support from leadership, lack of control and flexibility, and inability to gauge on-site resources. The study concludes that the qualitative results can be of assistance when creating workplace wellbeing programs.
