How to Apply for the Psychologically Healthy Workplace Honors

The application period opens in January and closes in July, with the honors presented by APA in September each year.

For 2018, the deadline to complete the initial application is July 1 extended to July 15.

After registering online and completing the initial application, you will be contacted by a representative from the American Psychological Association’s Center for Organizational Excellence with more information about the application process.

Note: Nominees for the American Psychological Association’s Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award come from the pool of previous recipients of the Psychologically Healthy Workplace Honors and local winners – organizations cannot directly apply for this award.

Steps for Applying for the Psychologically Healthy Workplace Honors

  1. Register online at https://app.apaexcellence.org.
  2. Complete the Psychologically Healthy Workplace Honors (PHWH) Application, which asks you to check off the policies and practices your organization has in place and complete a short essay about your organization’s commitment to creating a psychologically healthy workplace.
  3. Complete the Organizational Practices Questionnaire. This is a series of short essays where you describe your workplace practices, as well as the benefits they have produced for employees and the organization. This may take a few hours and asks you to include data to support your claims (for example, employee turnover, participation rates, cost savings, performance improvements), so you may need to involve other people from your organization in the completion of this step.
  4. Obtain a link to our employee questionnaire and forward it to your entire workforce, or a random sample of your employees. In general, at least 10 percent of your workforce must complete the survey, although adjustments are made for very large and very small organizations.
  5. Schedule a site visit for a team of psychologists to come to your organization, meet with employees and tour your facilities. This generally includes a meeting with senior leaders and a town hall or focus groups with employees.
  6. Following completion of the application process and honors selection, you will receive feedback, including a summary of results from the Application, Organizational Practices Questionnaire, Employee Questionnaire and site visit.
